Everything To Know About UAE COVID-19 Vaccine Hayat-Vax

As the distribution of the first locally-made COVID-19 vaccine is underway in UAE, many people are still looking for more information on this vaccine. Hayat-Vax is a locally produced version of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine. The vaccine was produced to support inoculation drives for residents of UAE as well as for abroad.

The Emirates is also planning to increase the capacity of production and distribution to 2 million doses in one month under UAE vaccination program. The World Health Organization (WHO) gave emergency use approval to the Sinopharm vaccine last week. Why is this important? The international recognition of the UAE vaccine will open doors to distribute the vaccine to lower-income nations as well by including the vaccine in the Covax programme.

So let’s understand the Hayat-Vax vaccine in detail.

Where is Hayat-Vax being produced in UAE?

Covid-19 UAE vaccine, Hayat-Vax, is being produced by the local drug maker Julphar’s plant, which is in Ras Al Khaimah. The brand name of the vaccine is Hayat-Vax, where Hayat means ‘life’ in Arabic, and Vax stands for the vaccine.

The production was finalised in UAE after the country cracked a deal with China seeking approval to manufacture the UAE Hayat vaccine and permitting two local groups, Abu Dhabi’s Group 42 and Julphar, to process it further.

How will UAE help other nations in distributing COVID-19 vaccines?

The leaders of UAE pledged to support lower-income nations along with countries facing the second or third wave of COVID-19, by providing affordable doses of the vaccine. After a constant push and urge by the health experts, the need of supplying vaccines quickly and at maximum quantity was realized at the start of 2021.

India extended its hand to support this drive by supplying half of CoviShield vaccines to other nations. Initially, the drive was quite successful, but the exports have suddenly been put to rest as the country faces a second wave of COVD-19. While the situation in India was reported worse every day, UAE covid-19 vaccine Hayat-vax was another vaccine to rescue lower-income nations.

Considering the storage requirement of Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines, it was difficult for the lower-income nations to provide the required temperature to store them. Hayat-vax vaccine, on the other hand, provided a suitable solution as it can be stored in a normal refrigerator as well.

As the distribution begins, UAE is all set to help and support all lower-income nations with the vaccine and put an end to the pandemic soon. Only when a major population is vaccinated, herd immunity is achievable and soon the world can say goodbye to the pandemic.
