End of Covid-19 pandemic in Europe ‘plausible’ after Omicron: WHO

The pandemic could come to an ‘end’ in Europe after the current Omicron-driven wave passes over after infecting around 60 per cent of the population of the continent, the World Health Organization said. The WHO's comments instil some hope for Europe, currently reeling under the highly transmissible Omicron-led wave. Omicron represented 15% of new cases as of January 18 in the WHO Europe region that comprises 53 countries.
