Kamal Hassan registers a narrow win by 72 votes from Coimbatore South

South Indian actor and politician Kamal Hassan registered a narrow victory by just 72 votes from Coimbatore South. Contesting a direct election for the first time, Hassan went into the election from the Makkal Needhi Maiam party (MNM). MNM, which fielded 42 candidates, also forged an alliance with the All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi. Hassan was the only face from MNM to win the election.
